212,248 foreign nationals were granted a residence permit for a stay in Hungary of longer than three months in 2010, said the director of the National Office of Immigration (BAH) at a recent press conference
Dr. Végh Zsuzsannaadded that it is an increase of 2% compared to figures for 2009 with two-thirds of the figure from EU countries.
Numbers from her office also show that over the same period the number of desperate asylum seekers in Hungary fell by 55%, and that Hungary expelled 60% more illegal immigrants mostly of whom are Serbians, Afghans, and Vietnamese.
