MARRIAGE BLISS

8 reasons marriages hit the rocks
By Bisi Olaleye

General Overseer, Happy Family Chapel, Akowonjo, Lagos, Bishop Charles Ighele and his wife, Rev. Mrs. Caro Ighele have identified eight factors why marriages, especially Christian ones continue to break down.
This follows conservative reports, revealing that global divorce rate has escalated to about 85 per cent, while that of Christian marriages pegged at 50 per cent.

These eight factors according to the marriage ministers and counselors include not trusting God enough, lack of commitment, longsuffering, patience, external influences, not able to bridge the gap of dislikes, not arresting unattractiveness and staying focused.

They listed these factors at the launch of a marriage and relationship website,‘www. TheLoveAren.com’ and book, titled: ‘Handling quarrels in your marriage’, in Lagos at the weekend. They explained that it became imperative to mediate between gone sour relationships and marriages through their latest book and website. They also noted that it was much easier to log on their website to seek answers to disturbing questions on marriages and relationships especially for people who want to remain anonymous.

According to the Bishop, the book was a desire and a solution to marriages being wrecked by the devil on daily basis, because the devil knew that God valued the marriage institution. While citing the banker who was killed by her husband and condemning such act, he stressed that commitment is missing in today’s marriage and only if the originator of marriage is re-invited to the home, history will keep repeating itself.

Said he: “The Christian marriage is from God and is supposed to make positive impact in the world and affect other marriages, but people live their lives in such manner that allow external global influences to affect their marriages. What happens? We are supposed to be the light in our marriage in order to set examples but most Christian marriages have failed and embarrassed God.
