South Africans protest attacks on women in mini-skirt

South African in their hundreds on Friday marched in Johannesburg to protest attacks on two women for wearing mini-skirts.

Organizers of the march, the ruling African National Congress Women’s League said the protest was to emphasise that women had the right wear whatever they wanted without fear of victimisation.

Two women were reportedly attacked at the Noord Street rank in central Johannesburg by a group of men who taunted and groped them, pulled their clothing while taking photos with their mobile phones.

The march was attended by cabinet ministers and the governor of Gauteng and Women’s Minister Lulu Xingwana who vowed to close down the taxi rank if such harassment is reported.
