South Africans protest attacks on women in mini-skirt
South African in their hundreds on
Friday marched in Johannesburg
to protest attacks on two women for wearing mini-skirts.
Organizers of the march,
the ruling African National Congress Women’s League said the protest was to
emphasise that women had the right wear whatever they wanted without fear of
victimisation.
Two women were reportedly
attacked at the Noord Street
rank in central Johannesburg
by a group of men who taunted and groped them, pulled their clothing while
taking photos with their mobile phones.
The march was attended by
cabinet ministers and the governor of Gauteng and Women’s
Minister Lulu Xingwana who vowed to close down the taxi rank if such
harassment is reported.
