World Cup Brazil 2014

Brazil 2014: Nigeria & Algeria eliminated
By Hakeem Babalola

The two remaining African teams in the on-going world cup tournament in Brazil have been eliminated in the round of 16. They were sent packing by two European teams.

Nigeria lost to France by 2 goals while Algeria whose gallant and brilliant display have earned them respect, lost by the same margin of goals to Germany, one of the supposed tournament's favourites. Algeria

The other three African teams failed to qualify in their respective groups prompting the question: when will African team reach the semi-finals?

Ghana was almost at the semi-finals in 2010 world cup in South Africa. But was denied by the cheating hands of Suarez of Uruguay who desperately prevent a glaring ball from going into the net.

Although the Uruguay player was penalised with a red card, and a spot kick awarded to Ghana; the African team missed the penalty kick, denying Ghana of making history as the first African team to reach the semi-final.

The other three African teams in the tournaments are Cameroun, Ghana and Ivory Coast
