PEOPLE & SOCIETY

United African Diaspora Community Hungary is born
Hakeem Babalola

Africans in Hungary has finally got a forum to address a common interest affecting their lives in Hungary.

The newly formed organisation which is registered under the name, “Egyesűlt Afrikai Diaszpóra Közösség Magyarországon” (EADKM) with number 01-02-0016111, held its first founding members meeting on Thursday April 14, 2016.

Eight of the ten founders were present in an atmosphere full of joy and relief.

Of course one can understand the emotion displaced by the founding members who seem determined to support the future of Africa.

It is common to see Hungarians and non-Hungarians alike parading themselves as representing Africans at important functions deliberating on African issues. Apparently many Africans see this as disingenuous, hence the need to take mater into their own hands.

At the meeting, the founding members congratulated one another for making it possible an organisation that was long overdue.

It was highlighted that Africans in Hungary have been blessed with individuals doing well in their different endeavours, but such blessing should now be used for group effort.

Described as a non-profit commune, each member took turn to express his opinion.

-All together they agreed that the success or failure depends on each one of them, saying each member must have great commitment.

-There must be awareness that the organisation is born therefore it must market itself

-There must be solidarity to help each other especially the new immigrants in Hungary

There was a moment of promise of commitment during which one founding member confessed  he was doubtful at the beginning but now he was more than happy adding that the "founding members" must work hard - to support the future of Africa

The founding members come from across the continent: Sudan, Mozambique, Mauritania, Congo, Ghana, Gambia, Ethiopia, Uganda and Nigeria
