There is ongoing debate among stakeholders of industries that corporations should necessitate Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as a business necessity. The argument hinges on the fact that corporations should become socially conscious, but the media have a great role to play on how the CSR business is heralded to the world.

In alliance with The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited, an affiliate of Shell International, the government has in the past deployed very brutish and repressive techniques to force the Ogoni people to submission and gain access to the oilfields it abandoned some 20 years ago.

Brussels attacks add to political obstacles for Cameron & Merkel

If David Cameron and Angela Merkel thought they had earned a moment’s respite from their woes, the murderous attacks in Brussels only deepened their political turmoil.The bombings at the heart of the European Union that killed at least 31 people were seized upon by proponents of Britain leaving the bloc to argue that EU membership puts the U.K. more at risk, rather than making it safer as the prime minister asserts. In Germany, an insurgent party that benefited from opposition to Chancellor Merkel’s open-door policy on refugees immediately warned of the threat of “political Islam.”

Ekiti State government & DSS invasion: The missing link

Early in the week, news broke in the media whereby allegations were raised by the members of the Ekiti state house of assembly against the DSS that it invaded the house of assembly to arrest some members who were busy performing their legislative functions and thereafter, the house addressed a press conference where they also raised another allegation against the DSS that they were offered an inducement of 1 million dollars to impeach governor Ayodele Fayose.

Dr. Dakuku Peterside, Director-General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA narrowly escaped death this afternoon after his vehicle was attacked by gunmen in two utility vehicles on his way from the Port Harcourt International Airport.
