Africa Day to be celebrated on May 27
B Hakeem Babalola

The Ambassadors and Honorary Consuls of the African countries in Budapest have chosen Friday May 27 to celebrate this year's Africa Day.

The celebration will start from 4:30-9 pm at the Museum of Fine Arts situated in district 14, Dózsa Győrgy út 41, in downtown Budapest.

The attendance is strictly by invitation as guests are instructed to bring their invitation card with them, which is not transferable.

This policy has angered many Africans living in Hungary who argued that a true Africa Day should be opened to all Africans irrespective of class or status.

"How do they judge who's to be invited?" queried a Camerounian who begged for anonymity.

Meanwhile the dress code is described as formal.

There will be raffle draw in which invited guests can win lots of prizes by dropping their invitation cards in a box that would be provided at the venue.

The prizes include but not limited to five-day return ticket to Egypt, two flight tickets to any African destination.

The sponsors are Egypt Air, Turkish Airlines, and about twelve other private enterprises based in Hungary.

The official International Africa Day falls on May 25 of every year
