Africa museum which is situated at Balatonnederics in the rural part of Hungary has become one of the most visited places around the lake Balaton region with a record of hundred and twenty thousand people last year.
The museum management said that the number of visitors this year was also high even though the summer weather was not favourable.
The museum which was established twenty five years ago is gradually becoming a silent contributor to the Hungarian tourist industry because of its unique atmosphere that compel visitors to make all kinds of positive comments.
Founded by Dr. Nagy Endre after returning from Arusha-Tanzania where he took refuge during the second world war, the museum is sandwiched between the Zala and Vesprem counties in the rural part of Hungary.
Nagy was said to be so touched by the unsurpassed hospitality he received from Africa that he decided to bring in a little piece of Africa to his native country Hungary after forty years of refuge.
The museum sits on a six heaters of land and initially it housed only collection of game trophies, sculptures, furniture and art works. There is a zoo attached to the museum with different type of animals and birds from Africa; the most striking being the forty-two-year old owl.
There is a kilometer walk mini jungle for children with few animals, hunters' watch towers, a monkey bridge suspended between the jungle cafe and a roof top of an artificial cave. Also on top of a newly built hunters' watch tower is a breathtaking panoramic view of the biggest inland lake in Europe with its natural surroundings.
