Budapest Criminal Court in district II has finally given its verdict over the case of two Africans accused of being in possession of illicit drugs. The judgement was delivered on Friday November 19 after more than two years of weighing the evidences including calling witnesses.
After four hours of deliberation, the jury returned the verdict of not guilty – for the Sudanese woman; while her co-accused, a Tanzanian man was found guilty of misuse of drugs. He was sent to 3 years 6 months imprisonment but will serve only 1 year 3 months. Whilst the prosecutor agreed with the sentence – of the Tanzanian man, it will appeal against that of the Sudanese woman.
Consequently, the defence has already indicated that it will appeal the sentence of the Tanzanian man. African News Hungary will bring you the story as it unfolds.
Meanwhile, another drug case involved a Nigerian at the Municipal Court in Markó utca was postponed until March 3 next year to allow the accused to properly brief his new lawyer. The Nigerian who has been in prison for two years according to our source, denied the allegation saying that he was not the owner of drugs alleged to be found in his flat
