The inauguration of the project was attended by several African leaders who are also expected to hold their first AU summit in the building on Sunday.

Speaking at the event, the AU chairman, Equatorial Guinea’s President Teodoro Obiang Nguema, said the complex was “a reflection of the new Africa.”
The AU building is now the tallest building in Addis Ababa and its construction started in January 2009 involving 1,200 Chinese and Ethiopian workers.
