Nigeria releases 70 out of 100 Chinese arrested
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei has confirmed the release of about 70 out of over 100 Chinese citizens arrested by Nigeria's immigration authority.
Hong said at a press conference in Beijing that around 100 Chinese citizens were arrested by Nigeria's immigration service for illegally living and working in the country.
The Chinese Embassy in Nigeria and General Consulate in Lagos paid great attention to the incident and made necessary inquiries concerning the case and members of the embassy have visited the detained Chinese.
Chinese authorities have urged Nigeria to handle the case carefully according to law and the Chinese embassy would continue to offer consular assistance to those who may face repatriation.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said they will work closely with their Nigerian counterparts to help resolve the case.
