No African player nominated for FIFA's Puskas Award
Despite
boasting of some of the best strikers in the game, no African player
was able to get into the 10-man shortlist released by FIFA for the
Puskas award given out yearly to the finest goal scored within the
period.
It is the second straight year an African will be missing from the shortlist since Moussa Sow of Senegal and Emmanuel Badu of Ghana were nominated in 2012. This is quite unlike the past, when legendary strikers like Liberia's George Opong Weah and Tony Yeboah of Ghana always had a say in the matter.
PSG star Zlatan Ibrahimovic is joined by the likes of Robin Van Persie and Diego Costa on the list with the former’s amazing flying header strike against Spain at the 2014 World Cup favoured to scoop the award.
