The President Ogoni Truth and Enlightenment Forum, OTEF, Comrade Sobarilukaka Barisua has lauded the All Progressives Congress, APC-led Federal Government of President Mohammadu Buhari for keeping to its promise of implementing the UNEP report for the remediation of Ogoni environment.
Speaking to news men in Port-Harcourt, OTEF recounted the suffering of the Ogonis who lost their leaders in the persons of Theophilus Oroge, Samuel Orage, Albert Badey, Ken Saro-Wiwa, Edward Kobani and 8 others to the struggle for a better Ogoni free from the hazardous effects of oil exploration and exploitation.
OTEF commends the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People, MOSOP, for finally recognizing the inputs of 'Ogoni4' after 22years and called for the leadership of MOSOP from making statements that are divisive as it did in its viewpoint interview this morning (May 28 2016) on Rhythm FM, Port Harcourt.
OTEF notes with regret how, in the past 21 years, MOSOP had both deliberately or inadvertently, played down on the memory of the Ogoni 4 and glorified that of the Ogoni 9.
OTEF therefore suggests that for true reconciliation to be achieved, MOSOP should not only desist from the call for the exoneration of the Ogoni 9 for the murder of the Ogoni 4 but set aside a day within the year for the remembrance of all who died in the process of the struggle with their names mentioned one after another.
It described the losses as colossal and that mistake of the past which led to the gruesome murder of the 'Ogoni4’ and subsequent trial and hanging of the 'Ogoni 9 be avoided.
Signed:
Sobarilukaa Barisua
President.
