The
President of the European Parliament, Dr. Jerzy Buzek, has said that the Schengen
agreement is not in trouble contrary to the opinion of many experts who have
begun to question the future of the scheme.
Buzek made this known when he was speaking to France 24 TV Channel. “No, I don’t
think the Schengen agreement is in trouble,” said Buzek.
He re-affirmed the significant of the agreement, saying it is one of the most
important achievements of the EU.
The European Parliament
president added that the borderless travel between
many European countries is good for “our citizens” who know what it means to go
from Finland to Portugal
without any visa.
An
influx of immigrants who have undertaken international moving from North Africa
to Italy
and other European countries is believed to have caused alarm in Schengen
member states, leading to the fear of the future of the free zone.
