It was all
round of applause as the Egyptian Light and Hope Blind Girls' Orchestra Group
thrilled the audience to a classical composition of different songs at a
concert last Tuesday at SYMA Event Centre in Budapest district 14.
Although the 36 girls were led on to
the stage, they in turn led the audience to the world of light and hope in
which destiny is all that matters.
Looking radiant in black dress and scarf to match in the orchestra pit, these girls used strings, woodwind, brush and percussion to send a powerful message that blindness might be seen as handicap but never a detriment to good health, spiritual advancement, and intelligence development.
"The performance is amazing," said Irambo Raymond, one of the invited guests, adding that they are simply bunch of talents.
For more than an hour, this inspiring group received instructions from the conductor only with a tap of his fingers.
Said to be the only Blind Orchestra Group in the world, it plays western classical music as well as oriental music.
The girls no doubt hold their success to Braille, a system of reading and writing used by people who are blind or visually impaired.
Speaking to African News Hungary, Dr. Ali Osman who is the conductor of the Egyptian Light and Hope Blind Girls' Orchestra Group, explained that one reads Braille by passing one's fingers over characters, each of which is an arrangement of one to six embossed points.
"You can see that they are not reading notes," said Osman who holds PhD in Music Composition. "They read with their fingers".
The girls have different levels of music education and learn to play their musical parts separately and train twice a week as an orchestra.
African News Hungary gathered that the Orchestra started travelling abroad in 1988 and has, to date, travelled 23 times to 5 continents.
This time around they have been to Austria, Czech, Slovakia, Slovenia and other places.
