Extra charge for e-passport @ Nigerian consulate
Please permit me to use this medium to draw the attention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to what I would describe as an 'untidy situation', with regard to the mode of application for epassports in the United States.
The officials of the Nigerian Consulate in New York City are asking applicants for the epassports to remit the sum of $65.00 (Sixty five US dollars) to an organisation in Connecticut, and thereafter remit an additional $50.00 (Fifty US dollars) to the Nigerian Consulate in New York City before they can obtain the new epassports. I wonder why anybody would be compelled to enlist the services of an intermediary in the application process, other than for some ulterior motive(s)!
Here in the US, applications for US passports can be made via the postal service and I am at a loss why the Consulate officials have to import what seems like the 'business as usual' method into a foreign land. Can the high echelons of the Ministry please call their people at the various consulates in the United States to order.
